Tapeworm in Cats

June 13, 2018 by thehealthy

Q.  I know for a fact that two of my cats have tapeworms from fleas. I see a mostly holistic vet here in Tampa, FL (I’m originally from Framingham, MA) but she charges about $15 for a droncit tablet. I am looking for a cheaper alternative, or another holistic vet who takes CareCredit. I have tried diatomaceous earth, but it hasn’t worked, mostly because I can’t get them to eat enough to actually rid them of the tapeworms. The fleas are finally gone, so I think this will be the last time I have to treat them (they’re indoor-only cats, who got fleas when they came in from the neighbor’s apartment. She’s gone now, too!) for worms, but I want to buy some extra just in case or use something else.  I was just hoping that you might know of a place to buy medicine for them without having to get a prescription, or a natural vet who takes CareCredit. Failing that, if you could point me in the right direction to find what I’m looking for, I would be so grateful!

Suzanne R.

A.  Fleas and tapeworm are frustrating!  I am not sure about Care Credit with holistic vets, I believe it is very individual. There is a website that I believe will help

http://twocrazycatladies.com/

They have a product called Worm Ex, with very good reviews, and good information on species appropriate diet for cats which is a huge deterrent from getting parasites. And they seem very responsive to answer questions, and it is all about cats!

I hope this helps, Diane Dewberry
